I recently had the chance to interview the lovely Nadine Platzek who is the singer and songwriter of her current project called Tape3000 out of Germany. I have gotten to know Nadine fairly well through a mutual friend, and have absolutely fallen for her music, talent, and beautiful voice.
Check out her story:
A: Explain what Tape3000 is and how you started making your music? Also what instruments or programs do you use?
NP: It all started in the hills of Sweden: In 2007 I spent a year working as a nanny in a tiny cozy village right on the ocean. It took many hours to go by bus to the city, so most of the weekends I stayed home in my own little cottage. I really enjoyed having time. I read a lot, explored the local area, walked through the deep forest, or spend time at shore. Rainy days came and I felt like trying out something new, so I started making music in a simple way. I just got a program and used my crappy headset microphone to sing. In addition I never learned any instrument or how to make music, so I just did.
After I got some tracks together I released a digital free-album. I did not expect anything, nor that people would like my thin and immature sound, but I was surprised by compliments and was encouraged to keep going and grow. After two more years I released my 2nd album (The New Arrival, 2009) which became something between being lost in space and finding a new ground (planet) to stay on. Another year later I came along with less sound of space, more with vocals and danceable sound (Out Of My Head, 2010). Followed with one more EP (Gold, 2010) I finally reached the sound I wanted to create. My latest EP “TROR” (Feb, 2011) became the way that I truly am.
A: Who are your main influences? Also if you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?
NP: My main influences are humans and all their bitter sweet mistakes, such as my own. As a musician, I listen to a lot of bands like Slowdive, Zeigeist, Kraftwerk, Aphex Twin, oOoOO, Washed Out, How To Dress Well and Memory Tapes. Each of them has influenced and inspired me a lot. If I could choose to work with one of them Id love to work with Memory Tapes. I would like to ask one day.
A: What should Tape3000 listeners expect in the near future? New releases? Tour dates?
NP: Listeners can look forward to the complete TROR album and live performances to follow the album release. I’m about to complete the album before summer and set up a new live show. Tour dates will be released on Soundcloud and Tape3000′s Facebook fanpage.
It is not only Nadine’s wonderful personality, but her humble attributes that made Tape3000 a close project to my heart.
